Superstocks Race Report by Barry
Superstocks had it all - Fast racing, bad luck and controversy. Driver of the night was 87B Thomas Stanaway after two wins, and a second in the Feature.
This was Stanaway’s first appearance for the season and the pristine prepared car was on the pace from the start in race one after drawing grid 2 and taking off to flag fall.
Chasing hard was 76B Ben Milne who finished second after starting from grid 4. Big mover was 99B Jacob Buckrell starting off grid 15 to finish third. Fastest lap went to Buckrell at 17.238 seconds. Unfortunately Milne was trailered after this heat for exceeding the 95 decibel noise limit, after a late enforcement ruling from Speedway NZ. 24B James Tollison was out with gearbox problems.
Race two started with the big push on the first corner, and 99B Jacob Buckrell being turned around and stalling. The race was stopped and Buckrell was allowed to continue (thanks to officials) after firing up and losing one lap, and being swallowed up by the pack. He managed to work his way through to shadow leader 11B Matt Titter to the last corner. Titter slowed to avoid being spun by Buckrell, thus allowing 87B Thomas Stanaway to storm through, spin Titter away and race to the flag for the win. Fastest lap went to Stanaway at 17.457 seconds.
Unfortunately, three more cars were found with excessive noise readings and trailered – 99B Jacob Buckrell, 166A Hayden Hart and 606B Rhys Wheatley.
Race 3 (Feature) had the field reduced to 11 cars and a good win to fast charging 5G Josh Prentice after starting off grid 2. 87B Thomas Stanaway started off grid 8 to finish second and 12R Glen Clarke was third after starting off grid 7. Stanaway set fastest lap time at 17.839 seconds.
For the first time this season we had a female driver in 23B, seasoned Saloon and Stockcar driver, Karena Annan trying her luck in the Feature race – she finished 8th with a good effort.
Thanks to all our visitors who made the effort to travel and support Meeanee Speedway – those mentioned above plus 5R Logan Nicholson-Mabey and 51R Sam Guise.
Best wishes to all for Christmas from the Boys of the Superstock class!
