MINISPRINT TRACK RECORD FOR KURIGER, HERMANSEN TAKES A TITLE AND MIKE MAC STIRS IT UP IN SUPERSTOCKS.
The torrential rain that fell on the region only 2 days before played havoc with the race track. Although the surface provided excellent grip levels { especially for Super Saloons as Steve Flynn was only .5 off track record pace } it was the mammoth size of the ruts that determined a few outcomes. All credit to each and every competitor who simply got on with the job and provided some stunning racing.

SUPERSTOCK 7p Shane Penn was in dominant form easily taking heats 1 and 2 of Superstocks and was looking a sure bet for the 3 peat until being singled out by the menacing 6k of Michael McLachlan on the last lap. Penns run was halted by Mikes rear bumper and he had to watch the 41b of Jason Long sail past for the last win of the season. 66b Tony Meechan was looking good in the tri rail and is one driver who probably wishes the season wasn’t ending.
STOCKCARS were again a class act with no less than 3 roll overs in the final heat. 64b Randall Tarrant came out gunning for the heat 1 victory with 17b Troy Battison who was driving the Iremonger car stealing the second. The final race of the night was Stockcars doing what Stockcars can. Carnage is a good description with no less than 3 big incidents, 27b Joshua Smith was the first to go over then it was 35b Ryan Whittaker taking the wild ride. Most spectacular was debut boys Mitch Fairhurst amazing piroquet in front of the com box which resulted in him landing back on all fours { welcome to the class Mitch }. At the flag 52b Regan O’brien had the honor to end out the season with the win from 86b Marty Cooke and Tarrant again featuring strong. The Pom Tom Elliot 32b had a great night and on this type of form will be a contender for wins next season for sure.
MINISTOCKS were hard and fast with 46b Quinn Ryan taking heat 1 from Caleb Waerea. 98b Max Bayley bagged the second race but the third turned out to be one of the best races of the season. 55 nic Gibbons battled to the lead while Ryan fought his way through the pack to mount a challenge. Multi times these two fought for the lead with Gibbons coming back at Ryan to lead down the back straight for the last time. Nic was covering the line down the inside or so he thought as Quinn threw the 46b car down the inside and somehow found the drive off pole to sneak through and steal a very hard won victory from Gibbons who just didn’t want to give it up. It was the perfect way to end the season for this class and I wish those drivers who are now leaving the class all the best in their future race careers.
THE EAST COAST MINISPRINT TITLE was up for grabs. As this was the first time ever for the title it was hotly contested to see who would make history. 1nz Dayne Maxwell showed his class to round the field in heat 1 for the win from 48p Hermansen and 93p Declan Roe 3rd. Heat 2 and the track was proving tough for the open wheelers. The major casualty was 1nz who had an early exit and was done for the night. 93p Roe stamped his mark on this race to go joint meeting leader with Hermansen who was second in the heat. Heat 3 was a no contest, 48p Hermansen was revving the bolts off his racecar and blitzed the field for the heat win and the title, 43p Trevor Stephensen got up to second with Roe back in third….Once the points were tallied Hermansen was champ from Declan Roe and Trevor Stephensen third.. The racing was fast and furious with 38h Donald Kuriger bagging a new track record in heat 1 of 15.829.
Well thats it the season is done, thanks to everyone for being a part of it, thanks to the competitors for entertaining the masses and also a BIG THANKS to all the sponsors, track staff and those who make it possible throughout the year.
